Perez-Somarriba No. 33, Epstein Ranked in Doubles

CORAL GABLES, Fla.  Estela Perez-Somarriba of the University of Miami women’s tennis team continued her ascent up the ITA singles rankings this week.

The Madrid native is ranked No. 33 in the country, slicing her ranking in half. The 33-spot increase is the seventh-most of any player, including the second-largest jump among freshmen.

Perez-Somarriba, who defeated a pair of top-25 opponents last week, including one in the top five, is now the eighth-highest-ranked freshman in the nation.

In addition, junior Sinead Lohan is also near the top of the singles rankings, checking in at No. 11 on the ITA’s list.

Lohan re-entered the doubles rankings, too. She pairs with redshirt senior Maci Epstein in the No. 59 spot. For Epstein, it is the first time she has been ranked in doubles as a Hurricane.

The Hurricanes also hold the No. 37 position in the ITA’s team rankings.

Miami (4-7, 3-3 ACC) will resume play Friday at 1 p.m., when it takes on Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
