@CanesFutbol Adds WVU Transfer Ouendeno
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head soccer coach Mary-Frances Monroe announced Monday the signing of Dalanda Ouendeno, a transfer from West Virginia University.
In her two years there, Ouendeno helped the Mountaineers post an overall record of 42-4-3 and make the Elite Eight both seasons, including reaching the NCAA title match in 2016.
“We were very excited about Dalanda’s international experience as a player,” Miami head coach Mary-Frances Monroe said of what drew her to Ouendeno. “She has nice speed and is a determined defender. She is tough and wants to advance the game.”
A native of Paris, Ouendeno played in 15 matches during her time at West Virginia and started one match. Her start came this past season against Purdue and Ouendeno delivered the match-winning assist during her 76 minutes of action.
Ouendeno, a 5-foot-5-inch defender, will help fortify a Miami back line that loses three key players, Emily Auld, Gianna Dal Pozzo and Shannon McCarthy to graduation. The trio combined for 56 of a possible 57 starts in 2016.
Outside of her college career, Ouendeno has played with Paris St. Germain, won five Isle of France titles and competed in multiple international competitions, including winning the 2014 Gothia Youth World Cup.
“As a staff, we have been every excited about every player we have brought into this program. Dalanda will only help us with already having college playing experience when she joins our team,” Monroe said. “At West Virginia, she had experience advancing to the finals of the NCAA Championship. We are very excited.”
Following her two seasons of competition at West Virginia, Ouendeno will have two years of eligibility remaining. She will begin classes at Miami with the start of the 2017 spring semester and go through spring practices with the team.
With the addition of Ouendeno, the Hurricanes now have players who went to high school in five different countries on their roster.
