Men's Tennis Opens at Home vs. St. John's and UNF

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis program will begin its 2017 spring campaign when it hosts St. John’s University and the University of North Florida this weekend at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

Saturday’s matchup will be the fifth meeting between Miami and St. John’s. The Hurricanes hold the all-time series lead over the Red Storm with a record of 3-1. All eight Hurricanes return from last season and will be led by first-year coach Aljosa Piric.

Junior Piotr Lomacki enters the spring ranked No. 86 in the ITA singles rankings, while Lomacki and senior Max Andrews sit at No. 22 in doubles.

Sunday’s matchup will mark the sixth meeting between the Hurricanes and the Ospreys. Miami boasts an all-time record of 4-1 against North Florida. The last time Miami faced off in a dual match with UNF was on Feb. 22, 2014, earning a 4-3 victory.

The Ospreys have senior Jack Findel-Hawkins in the ITA singles rankings at No. 51, while also having two pairs of doubles partners ranking in the top 60. Findel-Hawkins sits at No. 12 with his junior teammate Lasse Muscheites, while Muscheites and junior Jefta Kecic are ranked No. 58.

The Hurricanes will face four top-25 schools this season including No. 1 Virginia, No. 2 Wake Forest, No. 9 North Carolina, No. 20 Mississippi State and No. 25 Duke.

After playing UNF, Miami will take a two week break before returning to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in a home match against Troy University Saturday, Feb. 4 at noon.
