Swimming Ends Day 1 at Greensboro Aquatic Center
GREENSBORO, N.C. — The University of Miami swimming team wrapped up its first day of competition at the NC State GAC Invite Thursday night.
The Hurricanes opened the night’s final round with a time of 1:33.92 in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Freshmen Manon Viguier and Iliana Oikonomou were joined by junior Julie Suarez and senior Angela Algee as Miami’s top entry in the event.
Miami’s second entry – comprised of sophomores Ianire Casarin, Sydney Story and Roxanne Yu along with freshman Leah Brown finished in a time of 1:36.86. The event marked Story’s first competition of the fall schedule after missing time due to injury.
After posting a time of 4:55.90 in the morning preliminary round, senior Cameron Davis shaved off over a second to take fourth in the “C” final of the 500 free with a time of 4:54.56.
Viguier (4:59.30), freshman Claire McGinnis (4:59.63) and Suarez (4:59.83) also competed in morning prelims.
Algee won the “D” final of the 50 free with a time of 23.37, while Viguier won the “E” final with a time of 23.30. Casarin (24.12), Story (24.49), freshman Chantal Noe (24.82) and Brown (25.00) took part in the morning rounds of the event.
The Hurricanes ended the night with a time of 3:42.00 in the 400 medley relay. Yu, senior Julia Schippert, Algee and Suarez combined to form Miami’s top entry, while sophomore Katie Sickinger, Noe, Oikonomou and Viguier (3:52.93) served as Miami’s second entry.
The NC State GAC Invite continues Friday from the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
