Men's Tennis Returns to Athens
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team will return to Athens, Ga. this weekend, to compete in the Bulldog Scramble held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Five Hurricanes will be making the trip to Georgia: juniors Kevin Bondar, Niclas Genovese, Nile Clark and Christian Langmo, as well as sophomore Dane Dunlap.
Miami will be joined by student-athletes from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Princeton, South Carolina and Wake Forest.
Four Canes will open up the tournament Friday morning at 10 a.m., when Clark and Bondar face Georgia Tech’s Michael Kay and Phillip Gresk, while Langmo and Dunlap take on Georgia Tech’s Carlos Benito and Chris Yun.
Starting at 11 a.m., Langmo will face Georgia’s Walker Duncan in singles play. Simultaneously, Dunlap will take on Robert Loeb of Georgia, Clark will face South Carolina’s Sam Swank, Bondar will meet Wood Benton of South Carolina and Genovese will matchup against Georgia Tech’s Elijah Melendez.
At 2:30 p.m., all five Canes will return to the court, with Langmo competing against Georgia’s Emil Reinberg and Clark taking on Samuel Dromsky of Georgia. In addition, Dunlap will match-up with Georgia Tech’s Andrew Li, while Bondar takes the court against Cole Fiegel of Georgia Tech. Genovese will conclude the afternoon against Princeton’s Payton Holden
The format will be a round-robin tournament with a maximum of 32 singles players. Singles will be best two out of three sets, while doubles will be an eight-game pro-set with no-ad scoring. Doubles play will start each day at 10 a.m., while singles action gets underway Friday around 2:30 p.m., on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and immediately following doubles on Sunday.
