Men's Tennis Set for ITA Southeast Regional Championships

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team is preparing for a competitive weekend at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships held at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Fla.

All eight Hurricanes will take the court this weekend and will play in both singles and in doubles.

Thursday morning five Hurricanes will open the tournament in the qualifying singles bracket. At 9 a.m. junior Niclas Genovese will play Gerald Nickerson of Florida Atlantic, while sophomore Dane Dunlap will face North Florida’s Dominic Lea. With a win, the men will play in the Round of 32 match at 1 p.m. the same day.

Three Canes – Jesse Flores, Nile Clark and Kevin Bondar – were dealt a bye in the first round and will open their tournament in Thursday’s second-round action. [6-seed] Flores, a native of Oakville, Ont., Canada, faces the winner of Sahil Deshmukh of North Florida or Saitejas Mopuri of UCF. Bondar, from Calabasas, Calif., will play [4-seed] Elijah Melendez of Georgia Tech. Clark, of Philadelphia, will face [1-seed] Cole Fiegel of Georgia Tech.

Friday morning, the qualifying singles matches will conclude, leading into main draw singles and doubles play.

Two Hurricanes have been seeded in the main draw event, as No. 31 Piotr Lomacki is the No. 3 overall seed while No. 58 Christian Langmo is the No. 4 overall seed. Lomacki will open play against Ezequiel Cerrini of Florida Gulf Coast and Langmo will face Florida State’s Guy Iradukunda on Friday in the Round of 64.
