@CanesWTennis Set for ITA Southeast Regionals

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis will have all nine players competing for the final time this fall when it takes part this weekend in the ITA Southeast Regional Championships Presented by Oracle.

Held Thursday through Monday at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex on Florida’s campus in Gainesville, Fla., the tournament features players from 17 schools in Florida and Georgia.

The victorious singles player and doubles pair will receive automatic berths into the prestigious USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships (NIIC) held Nov. 3-6 in Flushing, N.Y.

Three Hurricanes will be in action Thursday for the qualifying rounds, with action beginning at 8:30 a.m.

In singles, freshman Sara Culbertson faces Georgia Southern’s Emilia Bujan and sophomore Clara Tanielian meets North Florida’s Luise Intert. In doubles, Tanielian and junior Silvia Fuentes are set to face Bujan and Mariana Ranzahuer of Georgia Southern.

The winners of each match will advance to main draw action, which begins Friday. Fuentes, redshirt senior Maci Epstein, sophomore Ana Madcur, redshirt sophomore Yolimar Ogando, freshman Dominika Paterova and freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba are all in the singles main draw.

Ogando, ranked No. 32, is seeded No. 5-8, while No. 117 Madcur, Epstein and Fuentes are all seeded No. 9-16.

Junior Sinead Lohan, ranked fifth in the country, will not compete in singles after already earning an automatic berth to the NIIC by winning the back draw at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships.

In the doubles main draw, Epstein is paired with Ogando, while Lohan will play with Paterova and Madcur teams up with Perez-Somarriba. The duo of Lohan and Paterova is seeded seventh.

Main draw action is set to open Friday at 8:30 a.m. Saturday matches will begin at 8 a.m., followed by 9 a.m., start times Sunday and Monday.
