All-American Monday - Srdjan Muskatirovic

Srdjan Muskatirovic (1994-95)

Winner of the European Junior Championship, Belgrade, Yugoslavia native Srdjan Muskatirovic came to the University of Miami as a former No. 1 in the 18 and under rankings and top Yugoslavian player. In his two seasons on the Coral Gables campus, Muskatirovic helped the Canes claim their second and third consecutive BIG EAST title.

As a freshman in 1993-94, Muskatirovic went 17-4 in singles play and 15-6 in doubles competition partnering primarily with Wolfram Knobling. In singles play, Muskatirovic defeated every ranked player that he was matched up against (6-0), was crowned and the “A” Flight Champion of the Big East Championships and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 1994 NCAA tournament. For his singles play, Muskatirovic became the first Hurricane to be named to the All-American team since Conny Falk in 1989. In doubles competition, Muskatirovic and his primary partner Knobling claimed the “A” Flight championship title of the Big East Championships.

Muskatirovic continued his success during his sophomore season as he went 19-7 in singles play and 23-7 in doubles competition. As the No. 7 ranked collegiate player and former No. 1, Muskatirovic claimed the SkyTel Clay Court Championship -where four of his five victories came against top-20 players. Muskatirovic became the first Hurricane to win the title. His biggest win of the season in doubles competition came against the then ranked No. 4 team of Rob Chess and Peter Ayers of Duke. For his success in doubles, Muskatirovic was named to the All-American team.
