@CanesFutbol Finishes Homestand vs. Wake Forest

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami soccer team will conclude a three-match homestand Sunday when it hosts Wake Forest at 2 p.m., at Cobb Stadium.

The last time the Hurricanes faced the Demon Deacons in Coral Gables was in 2014 and Miami earned a 2-1 victory in the final game of the year.

The Hurricanes are 7-4-0 on the season, including a 2-1-0 record in conference play that marks the third time in program history they have won two of their first three ACC matches. Last week, Miami defeated second-ranked Virginia, 2-1, and beat Syracuse, 2-0, in the first two contests of the homestand.

Miami has conceded just six goals thus far in 2016, a total that is tied for the third-best mark in the ACC and tied for No. 17 in the country. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce, a reigning ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, is fourth in the conference in both goals against average (0.57) and save percentage (.838).

Freshman forward Kristina Fisher and senior forward Gracie Lachowecki are part of a three-way tie for third in the ACC in goals with seven apiece. Fisher is also third in points (19) and tied for fourth in assists (five), while Lachowecki ranks fifth in points (15).

Wake Forest heads into Sunday’s match with an 8-3-0 (0-3-0 ACC) record, dropping each of its first three league matches after an unblemished non-conference slate. The Demon Deacons, who have reached NCAA Championship play in 17 of the last 20 seasons, posted a 5-12-2 (2-8-0 ACC) mark in 2015.

As is the case with all matches at Cobb Stadium, entry to Sunday afternoon’s contest is free. It will also be the Hurricanes’ Breast Cancer Awareness Game and the first 100 fans will receive pink Miami soccer shirts. Additionally, the Hurricanes will be joined by a guest captain from the Austen Everett Foundation.

The match between the Hurricanes and Demon Deacons will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra HERE and live stats can be found HERE.
