@CanesWTennis to Host the Miami Fall Invite
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – This weekend, University of Miami women’s tennis team will host the only fall event of the year at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Hurricanes will welcome Florida Atlantic, FIU and Pittsburgh to Coral Gables for the Miami Fall Invite, which runs Friday through Sunday.
Action is scheduled to begin with doubles matches at 9 a.m., each morning. Singles competition will follow, as courts become available.
Friday, Miami is set to play Florida Atlantic in doubles and FIU in singles. Saturday, the Hurricanes take on FIU in doubles and Pittsburgh in singles. On the final day, 16th-year head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ team will meet Pittsburgh in doubles and Florida Atlantic in singles. All of the Hurricanes’ matches will take place on courts 1-4.
Both Florida Atlantic and Pittsburgh have coaches with ties to the Hurricanes. The Owls’ head coach, Marcy Hora-Cava, played at Miami from 1998-2002. Her sister, the team’s assistant coach, Caroline Wheelen, née Hora, played at from 1993-98 and twice finished ranked in the top 30 nationally in singles. Additionally, Pittsburgh head coach Alex Santos was a Miami assistant coach from 2009-13.
The Hurricanes, who began the fall with four players participating in the Duke Bonk Invitational, feature a trio of nationally-ranked singles players. Junior Sinead Lohan is fifth in the country, followed by redshirt sophomore Yolimar Ogando at No. 32 and sophomore Ana Madcur at No. 117.
Audrey Ann Blakely of Pittsburgh is the lone visiting competitor in the ITA rankings, as she checks in at No. 122 on the singles list.
