@CanesWTennis Opens Fall at Duke Bonk Invitational
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team will begin its 2016-17 campaign this weekend at the Duke Bonk Invitational.
Held at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C., the tournament, which runs from Friday through Sunday, features players from Miami, Duke, Florida, Furman, LSU, North Carolina, NC State, TCU, Virginia and VCU.
Redshirt senior Maci Epstein, junior Silvia Fuentes, sophomore Ana Madcur and redshirt sophomore Yolimar Ogando will be making the trip to compete for the Hurricanes.
Action will begin Friday at 9 a.m., with Epstein and Madcur taking on Virginia’s Chloe Gullickson and Rosie Johnanson in the first round of the White Doubles Main Draw. Fuentes and Ogando will play Maggie Kane and Cassandra Vazquez of North Carolina in the opening round of the Black Doubles Main Draw on the first available court after the 9 a.m., matches.
Both duos will play their second round doubles matches Friday morning, too, at a time not before 10 a.m. First round singles competition is then scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m., or later.
No. 32 Ogando is set to meet Florida’s Peggy Porter in the Black Singles Main Draw and No. 117 Madcur will play NC State’s Alejandra Cisneros in the Yellow Singles Main Draw. In the Blue Singles Draw, Epstein is matched up with VCU’s Janina Braun and Fuentes will face No. 89 Josie Kuhlman of Florida.
Matches will begin at 9 a.m., on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s action is set to include the final round of doubles play and the second round of singles competition, while Sunday will have just the last round of singles play.
