#ProCanes Report - 9/12/16

The Monday #ProCanes Report will weed through all the NFL highlights and news to bring you the information you care about the most… what the former University of Miami Hurricanes did during the week prior. Week 1 of the NFL season brought its typical fair share of big performances by #ProCanes, including strong individual outings from running back Lamar Miller (Houston), tight end Greg Olsen (Carolina) and budding wide receivers like Phillip Dorsett (Indianapolis) and Allen Hurns (Jacksonville). Read on for more from around the NFL.

Lamar Miller (Houston Texans) – 28 carries, 106 yards

When running back Lamar Miller left Miami to sign a four-year deal with Houston, the Texans expected to have a versatile weapon on offense. Miller delivered in his official Texans debut, carrying a career-high 28 times and totaling 106 rushing yards in a 23-14 win over the Chicago Bears. Miller, who added four receptions out of the backfield, was the only running back to rush for over 100 yards on Sunday. His 32 offensive touches were the most of his young career, and he piled up 83 rushing yards in the first half.

Greg Olsen (Carolina Panthers) – seven catches, 73 yards

Fresh off his second straight 1000-yard season for the Panthers, tight end Greg Olsen came through with a big outing for Carolina in a disappointing loss to Denver. The seven catches were the most of any player on either side in the Thursday night season opener, while his 73 yards ranked second on the Panthers. Olsen was targeted nine times by quarterback Cam Newton – the second-most of any tight end through the opening weekend – and his 73 receiving yards led all players at the position.

Phillip Dorsett (Indianapolis Colts) – four catches, 94 yards

A 2015 first-round draft selection by the Indianapolis Colts, Phillip Dorsett totaled 225 yards on 39 receptions as a rookie. In his season debut Sunday against Detroit, Dorsett nearly halved his yards total from a season ago with a career-high 94 on four catches. Displaying his patented quickness and impressive speed, Dorsett hauled in a career-long reception of 51 yards on a deep ball from Colts quarterback Andrew Luck. Dorsett’s career day wasn’t enough for Indianapolis, who fell 39-35.

Allen Hurns (Jacksonville Jaguars) – four catches, 75 yards

After two dominant seasons in his first two years as a professional, Allen Hurns was rewarded with a lucrative four-year extension from the Jaguars this past offseason. If Hurns’ performance Sunday is any indication, another big year could be in store for the third-year receiver for the Miami native. Hurns totaled a game-high 74 yards on four receptions, including a long reception of 38 yards for the Jaguars, who dropped a close 27-23 decision to Green Bay.
