Pablo Gor Costales Tabbed Tennis Volunteer Coach
CORAL GABLES, Fla. â University of Miami men´s tennis head coach Aljosa Piric has named Pablo Gor Costales as the Hurricanes´ volunteer assistant coach, the school announced on Friday.
âWe are very excited to have Pablo join our coaching staff,â Piric stated. âPablo was known as the ultimate team player on his college team at Armstrong State, he was a great competitor and I am sure he will bring great experience and input as a recent college student-athlete. He brings great energy to our team, and most importantly he will serve as a great role model for our guys.â
A native of Tarragona, Spain, Gor Costales was a three-time All-American for Armstrong State University, located in Savannah, Ga., ending his 2016 campaign ranked No. 5 in singles and No. 12 in doubles. His highest national ranking was No. 2 in both singles and doubles (November 2015) earning that ranking at the USTA/ITA Division II National singles and doubles Championship.Â
Spending his last two seasons as the teamâs captain and tallying a career record of 215-37 for the Pirates, he led Armstrong State to the semifinals of the Division II NCAA Tournament four-straight seasons, competing in the 2013 championship match.
In 2016, the Pirates finished the season ranked third in the nation and Gor was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year and Southeast Region Senior of the Year.
In addition, Gor was named 2016 Student-Athlete of the Year by Armstrong State, where he graduated this May with a degree in business economics.
After earning his degree, Gor began coaching at the Rick Macci Tennis Academy and the New Generation and High Performance Tennis Academy, where he trained junior players, organized summer camps and taught private lessons to all ages.
During the summer of 2015 he interned as an assistant coach with Club Tennis Tarragona in his home country of Spain.
Prior to earning his undergrad degree, Gor was a top five junior in Spain and ranked No. 60 in the Spanish senior ranking. He got his first ATP point in July 2012 and was hitting partners with Fabio Fognini, Ernest Gulbis, Albert Ramos and Federico Delbonis, among others. Â
