@CanesFutbol Set to Take on FGCU
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami soccer team will take on its second of four consecutive in-state opponents when it plays FGCU at Cobb Stadium Thursday at 7 p.m.
The contest will be the sixth meeting all-time between the Hurricanes and Eagles, all of which have come since 2009. Miami is 4-1-0 in the previous five matchups, including earning a 1-0 road decision in 2015.
The Hurricanes enter the match at 5-1-0 on the season, marking the sixth time in program history they have won at least five of their first six games. It is also just the second time Miami has posted five shutouts in the first half-dozen matches of a campaign.
After posting three consecutive shutout victories for the first time since 2008, Miami is riding a streak of 285 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal heading into Thursday evening’s contest. The play of redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce in the Hurricanes’ 1-0 wins against Miami (OH) and Florida Atlantic over the weekend earned her NSCAA College Player of the Week honors.
FGCU is 2-3-0 in 2016 and has had four of its five matches end with a 1-0 score. The Eagles went 14-6-2 (6-0-1 ASUN) last year and reached the second round of the NCAA Championship, where they fell to Duke, the eventual national runner-up.
As is the case with all matches at Cobb Stadium, entry to Thursday evening’s affair is free. The first 100 fans in attendance will receive a zip ID card holder and team posters will be available for all fans.
