@CanesFutbol Faces Ohio State in Home Opener

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami soccer team will play its first home match of the 2016 regular season Friday night against Ohio State.

The Hurricanes and Buckeyes, who were ranked No. 23 in the NSCAA preseason poll and are now in the receiving votes section, will square off at 8 p.m., at Cobb Stadium. It will be the first regular season matchup between the two teams.

Miami (2-0-0) outscored its first two opponents of the season, North Florida and Stetson, by a 10-0 margin in pair of road matches. The Hurricanes topped the Ospreys, 7-0, and then defeated the Hatters, 3-0.

Freshman forward Kristina Fisher tallied three goals and three assists in the two matches, en route to earning NSCAA College Player of the Week honors.

Ohio State (2-0-0) earned a 3-0 home win over Kent State in its season opener and then topped Wright State, 4-2, in its second affair. The Buckeyes went 13-7-3 (5-4-2 B1G) last year, advancing to the Sweet 16 of the 2015 NCAA Championship.

The meeting with Ohio State will be the first of six consecutive home games for the Hurricanes to conclude non-conference play.

As is the case with all matches at Cobb Stadium, entry to Friday night’s game is free. The first 100 students in attendance will receive a zip card ID holder and team posters will be available for all fans.

The match will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra HERE and live stats for the contest can be found HERE.
