@CanesFutbol Begins Regular Season at UNF
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami soccer team will open the 2016 regular season Friday at 7 p.m., on the road at North Florida.
The Hurricanes and Ospreys will square off at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., in the first regular season competition of 2016-17 for any Hurricane athletic team.
In 2015, Miami had its largest margin of victory and highest goal total against North Florida, posting a 5-1 home victory. In the lone prior match between the two sides, the Hurricanes earned a 4-1 win in 2006. This will be the first time the teams meet in Jacksonville.
Miami returns seven starters and 17 total players from 2015 and its group of seven freshmen was the No. 22-ranked recruiting class in the country according to Top Drawer Soccer.
The Hurricanes went 4-0 in spring exhibition matches and did not allow a single goal, outscoring opponents, 14-0. Miami was also 2-0 in its fall exhibition slate, winning 2-1 at UCF and rolling past FC Surge, 9-0. Overall, fourth-year head coach Mary-Frances Monroe’s side has outscored its six 2016 exhibition opponents by 24 goals, 25-1.
North Florida, which finished 4-11-2 (2-4-1 ASUN) last season, dropped its exhibition match, 6-2, at Armstrong Atlantic.
