Ellis and Delauze Compete at Nationals

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami’s Brittny Ellis and Henri Delauze were in action over the weekend, competing in their home country’s national championships.

Ellis ran at the U.S. Junior Outdoor Championships, while Delauze raced at the Bahamian Senior National Championships.

Ellis ran the 400m at the U.S. Junior Championships, hosted at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High School in Clovis, Calif. The freshman finished third in Heat 4 of the women’s 400m first round with a time of 54.30 seconds.

A native of Gurnee, Ill., Ellis earned First Team All-America honors after helping the Hurricanes finish seventh in the women’s 4x400m at the NCAA Championships. She also helped the Canes run the fifth-fastest time in school history, posting a time of 3:29.68 in the semifinals at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Additionally, Ellis was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that set an ACC Championship record at the 2016 conference meet with a time of 3:30:61. Also an outstanding student, she was named All-ACC Academic for the outdoor track and field season, sweeping the awards for both indoor and outdoor track and field during her first year of college.

Delauze also finished third in his preliminary heat, running a time of 47.62 seconds in Heat 1 of the men’s 400m at the Bahamian Senior National Championships at Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas.

The Freeport, Bahamas, native had a strong sophomore year at Miami, reaching the NCAA East Preliminary in the 400m for the second straight season. Delauze ran a personal-best time of 46.43 seconds in the 400m at the ACC Championships, placing fourth with a time that ranks third in school history. In addition, he was a member of Miami’s fourth place finishing 4x400m relay team that posted a time of 3:09.03, which ranks fifth in UM history.
