Collins, Mediavilla Named Rawlings All-Americans
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Junior Zack Collins and sophomore Michael Mediavilla were among those players recognized as Rawlings All-Americans by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), the organization announced Saturday.
One of the most talented sluggers in Miami history, Collins was named a first-team All-American as enters the 2016 College World Series ranked among the top Division I hitters nationwide. He ranks third in career home runs (41), third in career RBI (181) and first in career walks (174) among all active players.
Collins ranks seventh all-time in career home runs at Miami and is alone in 10th in career RBI. His 174 career walks are the fourth-most in UM history, while his 75 walks this season are the third-most in a single season.
Collins, who was named to the Baseball America All-America First Team earlier in June, was selected No. 10 overall by the Chicago White Sox in the first round of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
Mediavilla, a second-team All-American by ABCA, delivered one of the best seasons on the hill in recent Miami history.
The lefthander became the first 11-game winner since Chris Hernandez in 2008 with a 11-1 record, and totaled a 3.11 ERA.
His 98.1 innings and 82 strikeouts were tops on the Miami staff, and he earned third-team All-ACC honors in his first year as a member of the weekend rotation. Mediavilla has held opponents to a .228 average, the lowest in the weekend rotation.
