@CanesWTennis Hosts TCU in NCAA Second Round

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team is set to host No. 37 TCU Saturday at 11 a.m., at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in the NCAA Team Championship Round of 32.

Seventh-ranked and seventh-seeded Miami (20-5, 12-2 ACC) is in the second round of the tournament for the 15th consecutive year after a 5-0 win Friday over No. 49-64-seeded Quinnipiac.

The Horned Frogs, seeded No. 33-48, posted a 4-3 victory against No. 29-ranked and No. 17-32-seeded Wichita State hours earlier.

The Hurricanes are 5-1 all-time against TCU, including 1-0 in Coral Gables and 1-0 in NCAA Team Championship play. Miami is 22-1 in home NCAA matches, with 21 shutouts and 21 straight wins.

TCU is 16-6 (6-3 B12) on the season and has won 14 of its past 18 matches. The Horned Frogs do not have any nationally-ranked singles players, but do have one doubles pair in the Oracle/ITA rankings. Seda Arantekin and Caroline Wegner check in at No. 34 in the country.

The Horned Frogs are in the second round of the NCAA Team Championship for the eighth time, including the third straight year, and are in search of their second Sweet 16 berth.

Miami features the nation’s lone top-10 teammate duo in singles, with sophomore Sinead Lohan at No. 8 and senior Stephanie Wagner at No. 9. Wagner’s 133 career singles wins are tied for the most in program history.

In addition, Yolimar Ogando, who has not played in 2016 due to injury, is ranked No. 42 and fellow sophomore Wendy Zhang holds the No. 75 spot in rankings.

Wagner and Zhang form the No. 12 doubles pair in the Oracle/ITA rankings, while Wagner also teams with senior Clementina Riobueno in the No. 55 position.

The Hurricanes are seeking to extend the nation’s fourth-longest active streak by reaching the Sweet 16 for the 11th year in a row.
