@CanesTrack Set for LSU Invitational
BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Miami track and field program will close out the outdoor regular season at the LSU Invitational Saturday.
The Hurricanes are part of a stellar field in Baton Rouge that includes Arkansas, Kentucky, Florida, LSU, Texas A&M and Miami. The action begins at 9 a.m., with the women’s discus, while running events are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m., with the women’s shuttle hurdle relay. The men’s 4x400m relay will close out the meet at 3:45 p.m.
Miami’s 15th-ranked women’s team enter the LSU Invitational as the top-ranked team in the ACC. The Caneswill be led by a host of contributors including NCAA pole vault leader Alysha Newman, ACC 400m leader Shakima Wimbley and ACC high jump leader Dakota Dailey-Harris. Miami will also feature outstanding athletes like hurdler Ebony Morrison, sprinter Aiyanna Stiverne and throwers Precious Ogunleye and Tiffany Okieme.
On the men’s side, Miami will look for seniors John-Patrick Friday and Isaiah Simmons to continue their success after setting school records a week ago at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational. Friday posted a personal-best mark of 15.80m in the men’s triple jump, while Simmons’ career-best throw of 19.00m gave him Miami’s shot put record. The men’s team will also look for big performances from jumper Innocent Jacob, throwers Gian Piero Ragonesi and Carlos Mangum, and sprinters Isaiah Taylor, Henri Delauze and Jaalen Jones.
The LSU Invitational will be Miami’s final competition before the ACC Outdoor Championships on May 13-15. The Hurricanes will enter the championship portion of their 2016 outdoor schedule beginning with the ACC Championships and continuing with the NCAA East Preliminary (May 26-28) and concluding with the NCAA Outdoor Championships (June 8-11).
