@CanesMensTennis vs. VT in ACC Championship
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team will square off against No. 36 Virginia Tech Thursday, April 21 at 4 p.m. in the 2016 ACC Tennis Championships, in Cary, N.C.
Miami is 8-11 all-time in the ACC Championships, since the first appearance in the 2005 season. In 2008 UM played its way to the finals, defeating Maryland, North Carolina and Florida State, then ultimately falling to Virginia in the championship.
No. 11 seed Miami is slated to take on sixth-seeded Virginia Tech on the second day of competition at the Cary Tennis Park. The two teams last faced off on April 15 in Blacksburg, Va., when the Hurricanes fell to the Hokies, 6-1. Max Andrews grabbed a notable win as he defeated then-No. 65 Andreas Bjerrehus 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 at the second singles spot.
Entering the ACC Championships, Miami claims two ranked doubles pairs with Nile Clark and Piotr Lomacki at No. 66 and Bernard Tefel and Max Andrews at No. 72. Sophomore Lomacki remains ranked as a singles player at No. 38. Virginia Tech sees four ranked singles players: No. 22 Joao Monteiro, No. 66 Andreas Bjerrehus, No. 74 Edoardo Tessaro and No. 107 Amerigo Contini. The Hokies also claim one ranked doubles pair with No. 15 Bjerrehus and Monteiro.
The winner of Thursday’s dual match will take on third-seeded Florida State (18-7, 9-3 ACC) on Friday, April 22 at 4 p.m.
