Andrews/Tefel Ranked No. 66; Lomacki No. 43

CORAL GABLES, Fla.  The University of Miami men’s tennis duo of Max Andrews and Bernard Tefel have broken into the ITA rankings as the No. 66 doubles pair in the nation, while sophomore Piotr Lomacki has claimed the No. 43 spot in singles.

As a team, Miami (7-11, 2-6 ACC) earned the ranking of No. 75.

Andrews and Tefel’s ranking marks the first time this season that the Canes have a top-100 doubles pair.

Tefel’s ranking is the first time of his collegiate career that he has been recognized nationally in singles or doubles. For Andrews, the mark is the first time he has been a part of a ranked doubles pair while in a Hurricanes uniform. Andrews, who previously transferred from Rice University, was part of a ranked doubles pair with David Warren during the 2014-15 season. Andrews and Warren received their highest rank in mid-April of 2015 at No. 64. The duo also appeared at No. 67 and No. 87 again in April, and No. 72 in May of 2015.

Andrews and Tefel have won six of their last nine completed matches since pairing up on Feb. 15, 2016. One of those matches includes a dominating 6-3 win against 12th-ranked Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim of Wake Forest.

Lomacki, who is 12-6 overall and 4-4 in ACC play, has been ranked in singles all season. He is 4-4 against nationally ranked opponents, including victories over No. 16 Benjamin Lock from Florida State and No. 38 Brayden Schnur of top-ranked North Carolina. Lomacki started the season as No. 23 in the nation, and has also been ranked Nos. 58, 78, 28 and 38 prior to his current No. 43 mark.

The Canes return to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center to play its last two home matches of the season. The Hurricanes will square off against No. 41 NC State on Friday, April 8 at 2:30 p.m. and Louisville at 12 p.m. on Sunday, April 10.
