@CanesWTennis Set to Host No. 12 UVA, No. 53 BC
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team will play two of its final four regular season home matches this weekend at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The sixth-ranked Hurricanes will face No. 12 Virginia Friday at 1 p.m. and will then take on No. 53 Boston College Sunday at 11 a.m.
Miami (10-4, 5-2 ACC) is riding a six-match winning streak and has its highest ranking Oracle/ITA national team ranking of the 2016 season.
The Hurricanes are 15-5 all-time against Virginia, including 10-1 at home. This will be the seventh-straight meeting between the two teams with both ranked in the top 20, a stretch dating back to 2011.
Virginia, like Miami, has four ranked singles players, with Danielle Collins leading the way at No. 4 in the nation. Julia Elbaba follows her at No. 16 and then comes Skylar Morton at No. 90 and Stephanie Nauta at No. 111.
The Cavaliers have two nationally-ranked doubles duos, both featuring Collins. She teams with Meghan Kelley at No. 21 and pairs with Nauta at No. 72.
Miami has an unblemished 22-0 mark against Boston College, with 16 of those victories over the Eagles coming at home.
Asiya Dair and Lexi Borr are Boston College’s ranked singles players, checking in at No. 86 and No. 113, respectively. In doubles, Borr and Jackie Urbinati form the No. 64 pair in the country.
As aforementioned, Miami has four singles players who are nationally ranked. Senior Stephanie Wagner is fifth and sophomore Sinead Lohan is sixth, with both marks the best in each player’s career. Yolimar Ogando, despite not yet playing in 2016 due to injury, is ranked No. 34, and fellow sophomore Wendy Zhang comes in at No. 109.
Wagner is a part of both of Miami’s ranked doubles pairs, combining with Zhang to form the ninth-ranked duo in the nation and forming the No. 66-ranked pair with senior Clementina Riobueno.
