@CanesWTennis Hits the Road to Face Pittsburgh
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team is set to play its first road match in 18 days when it squares off against Pittsburgh Sunday.
No. 12 Miami (9-4, 4-2 ACC) will face the Panthers at 11 a.m. at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center.
Pittsburgh (7-4, 1-4 ACC) is coached by Alex Santos, who spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Miami before moving on to take over the Panthers. Santos was the ITA National Coach of the Year in 2013, his final year with the Hurricanes.
The Panthers feature one player in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings, with Audrey Ann Blakely checking in at No. 123 nationally. Pittsburgh does not have any doubles pairs in the national rankings.
Miami, which has won five-straight matches by a total margin of 27-7, has four singles players who are ranked, with senior Stephanie Wagner pacing the group at No. 6 in the country. Sophomore Sinead Lohan follows her at No. 7.
Yolimar Ogando is ranked No. 39 despite not having played this spring due to injury, and fellow sophomore Wendy Zhang follows her at No. 103.
In doubles, Wagner and Zhang are ranked No. 10, Lohan and freshman Clara Tanielian come in at No. 55 and Wagner teams with senior Clementina Riobueno at No. 76.
