No. 74 Miami To Host No. 66 Duke
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team will return to play against fellow ACC team No. 66 Duke University on Friday, March 11 at 2:30 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Most recently, Miami fell in a close match to No. 54 Middle Tennessee, 5-2. The Canes spring record tallies to 6-5 after Tuesday’s loss.
Overall against the Blue Devils, Miami narrowly edges Duke, 23-21. The Canes have dropped the last five matches against Duke; their last win was in 2010.
Duke is currently 6-7 for its spring campaign and 0-1 against ACC teams. The Blue Devils enter Friday’s match coming off of a 4-3 loss to No. 42 Georgia Tech.
As a team Miami has managed to break into the ITA rankings for the first time this season, coming in at No. 74 after taking down No. 47 Florida State.
Both Duke and Miami observe one player in the ITA Tennis rankings.
For the Canes, Piotr Lomacki has reemerged in the top 30 of the singles ITA charts, jumping from No. 78 to No. 28 this week. Lomacki has battled it out to remain ranked for the entire spring season. The sophomore has racked up an impressive three singles wins against ITA ranked opponents and nine singles wins for the spring campaign.
From Duke it’s Peruvian sophomore Nicolas Alvarez at No. 20.
After hosting Duke, the Canes will play No. 1 North Carolina on Sunday, March 13 at 12 p.m. and Boston College Friday March 18 at 5 p.m.
