@CanesWTennis Rises to Ninth in Nation

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team jumped up a dozen positions to its peak spot of the season in the Oracle/ITA rankings released Tuesday afternoon.

The Hurricanes check in at ninth in the nation, matching their highest mark since the 2014 season. Miami has been in the top 13 in the nation all but one week this spring.

Miami’s 12-spot rise in the rankings is the third-highest of any team in the top 25 this week. The Hurricanes’ prior highest mark of the season was No. 11 in the Jan. 27 edition of the rankings.

The Hurricanes are one of four ACC schools in the top 10, twice as many as any other conference. Five ACC teams are ranked in the top 25, which is the second-most behind the SEC.

In singles, the Hurricanes are the lone team in the country with multiple players ranked in the top 10. Both senior Stephanie Wagner and sophomore Sinead Lohan tied the highest rankings of their careers, with Wagner holding the No. 6 position and Lohan just behind her at No. 7.

Sophomore Yolimar Ogando, despite missing the entire spring thus far due to injury, held her position at No. 39 nationally. Sophomore Wendy Zhang is ranked No. 103 in singles, once again giving the Hurricanes four players on the list.

In doubles, Wagner and Zhang moved up one spot to No. 10 in the nation. It is the first time in Zhang’s career she has been in the top 10 in singles or doubles. Lohan and freshman Clara Tanielian debuted in the rankings at No. 55, marking the first time Tanielian has been nationally ranked on either list.

Additionally, Wagner is again ranked in a second pair, coming in at No. 76 with fellow senior Clementina Riobueno.

The Hurricanes return to the court March 14 at 11 a.m. when they welcome No. 38 Columbia to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Miami will then host second-ranked Ohio State two days later, also at 11 a.m.
