Miami Begins ACC Play Against Florida State
The University of Miami’s men’s tennis program will begin ACC play Sunday as they host in-state rival Florida State at 3 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Miami suffered a tough 4-3 loss to No. 19 Michigan on Thursday, leaving the Canes’ spring record at 5-4. Coming into this match Florida State has one ACC match under their belt, defeating Clemson in a 7-0 shutout and improving their spring record to 9-3.
“We have a couple of days to get ready for FSU at 3 p.m. on Sunday, and we hope that many of our fans can make it out there,” said head coach Mario Rincon following Thursday’s loss.
The Canes post a 47-17 all time record against the Seminoles. Miami has two Canes still amongst the ITA top 100, with sophomore Christian Langmo at No. 81 and sophomore Piotr Lomacki at No. 78. Last week Lomacki defeated 60th-ranked Jathan Malik from Michigan, 7-6, 6-2.
The Seminoles have two ranked singles players, in No. 16 Benjamin Lock and No. 85 Marco Nunez. Florida State also sees a ranked doubles pair with No. 36 Jose Garcia and Marco Nunez.
After it’s match against Florida State, Miami will hold off on ACC play to square off against No. 61 Middle Tennessee, on Tuesday, March 8 at 12 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
