NEW ORLEANS – The University of Miami’s women’s track and field team is ranked No. 16 in the latest edition of the USTFCCCA National Team Rankings.

The Hurricanes are ranked 16th in the most recent USTFCCCA National Team Rankings released Monday. This edition of the USTFCCCA National Team Rankings are the first without marks and times from the 2015 indoor season. Miami spent last week at No. 15 following two weeks ranked No. 16 and opened the year ranked No. 17. The National Team Computer Rankings are complied by a mathematical formula based on national descending order lists. 

Miami has 10 different marks that contributed to its team score of 53.78 points. The newest marks contributing to the Hurricanes’ team score come from this weekend’s Tyson Invitational Invitational.

Juniors Shakima Wimbley and Ebony Morrison each ran stellar times in their respective events. Wimbley ran a 23.20 in the 200m that ranks first in the ACC and eighth in NCAA, while Morrison’s 8.18-second run in the 60m hurdles final ranks third in the ACC and 10th in the NCAA.

Miami’s 4x400m relay team of Aiyanna Stiverne, Brittny Ellis, Wimbley and Anthonia Moore combined to run a time of 3:34.04 at the Tyson Invitational that leads the ACC and ranks 12th in the NCAA.

Wimbley’s 400m time of 52.90 seconds ranks 13th in the NCAA, while Stiverne’s 400m time of 53.71 seconds ranks 27th to round out the five track times factoring into Miami’s score.

The Canes have five marks in the field events contributing to their total team score. Alysha Newman’s 4.50m in the women’s pole vault ranks second in the ACC and third in the NCAA, while Dakota Dailey-Harris’ high jump of 1.80m is third in the conference and 22nd in the country.

Two throwers combined to post three marks that scored for the Hurricanes. Tiffany Okieme ranks fourth in both the shot put and weight throw in the ACC with throws of 16.02m and 20.60m, respectively. Okieme’s 16.02m in the shot put ranks 33rd nationally, while her weight throw is 15th in the country. Precious Ogunleye is the final Hurricane contributing to the team’s score with a mark of 21.27m in the weight throw that ranks third in the ACC and seventh nationally.

The Hurricanes will spend this week training for the ACC Indoor Championships on Feb. 25-27 in Boston.
