Wagner/Zhang Shoot to No. 12 in Rankings

CORAL GABLES, Fla. A rise by Stephanie Wagner and Wendy Zhang from unranked to No. 12 in the nation highlighted Wednesday’s release of the updated Oracle/ITA rankings.

The duo is 6-3 this spring, with a 4-2 mark at the No. 1 position and a 4-2 mark against nationally ranked opponents. Wagner, a senior, and Zhang, a sophomore, already have two top-15 victories in 2016.

No pair in the country made a larger jump in the rankings this week and the No. 12 mark is the highest Zhang has had in her career in doubles.

In addition, Miami (4-2, 1-0 ACC) is the only school in the country with two singles players ranked in the top 10. Sophomore Sinead Lohan retained her No. 7 position, while Wagner checks in at No. 10.

Also in the singles rankings, sophomore Yolimar Ogando, who remains out due to injury, is ranked No. 29, while Zhang rose 11 spots to No. 69 on the list.

Wagner is also ranked in a second doubles pair, teaming with fellow senior Clementina Riobueno at No. 39 nationally.

In the team rankings, Miami (4-2, 1-0 ACC) earned the No. 12 position, marking the third-straight release with the Hurricanes in the top dozen. The team has been ranked in the top 13 the entire spring.

Miami is one of six ACC teams ranked in the top 25, the second-most of any conference. Five of those teams are in the top 20.

The Hurricanes will be back on the court Monday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. when they host No. 29 Baylor at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The Lady Bears advanced to the NCAA Team Championship Elite Eight in 2015.
