Canes Open at Home vs. St. John's & FAU

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis program will begin their spring 2016 campaign when they host St. John’s University and Florida Atlantic University this weekend at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla.

Saturday’s matchup will be the fourth meeting between Miami and St. John’s. The Hurricanes have swept the Red Storm with an all-time record of 3-0. Miami will return six players from last year’s squad, led by head Coach Mario Rincon.

The Miami team includes three Canes in the top 125 ITA singles rankings including sophomore Piotr Lomacki at No. 23, sophomore Christian Langmo at No. 70 and junior Max Andrews ranked at No. 107.

 

The Red Storm sees senior Lucas Hejhal break into the ITA singles rankings coming in at No. 56.

Sunday’s matchup will mark the 21st meeting between the Hurricanes and the Owls. Miami boasts an all-time record of 19-1 against Florida Atlantic. The Hurricanes last saw action against FAU during the Bedford Cup in Boca Raton, Fla.

The Hurricanes host eight top 75 ranked schools including No. 1 Virginia, No. 9 North Carolina, No. 11 Wake Forest, No. 13 Duke, No. 31 Florida State, No. 36 Louisville, No. 40 NC State and No. 63 Troy University.

After playing FAU, Miami will head to Jacksonville, Fla., to play in the UNF Invitational Friday Jan. 22 to Saturday, Jan. 23. During their first road matchups of the spring campaign, the Hurricanes will face off against No. 65 Alabama, No. 74 UNCW and No. 75 UNF at next weekend’s invitational.
