Three Canes Run at NCAA XC South Regional
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Three members of the University of Miami cross country team competed at the 2015 NCAA Division I Cross Country South Regional.
Gabrielle Hesslau and Anne Den Otter posted some of the best times in school history after completing the women’s 6K race, while Sean Grossman represented the Hurricanes in the men’s 10K.
“There were some tremendous efforts today, “Miami distance coach Damon Griffiths said. “ Gabby and Sean ran tough, but were not able to close hard and Anne finally put all the pieces together in her race today.”
Like she has all season, Hesslau was the top women’s cross country finisher for the Hurricanes. The junior crossed the finish line at the NCAA South Regional women’s 6K with a time of 21:48.23 to place 66th out of 208 competitors. Her time at the NCAA South Regional was just five seconds behind her personal-best 6K time of 21:43.20 that ranks third in UM history.
Den Otter closed her freshman campaign with an outstanding showing in the women’s 6K at the NCAA South Regional. The freshman placed 91st with a time of 22:19.23 that ranks seventh on UM’s all-time women’s 6K list.
Grossman was the lone male Hurricane in action in Tuscaloosa and the sophomore has a solid showing in his first ever NCAA South Regional. Grossman placed 109th out of 150 competitors, posting a time of 33:29.14 to finish his 2015 cross country season.
“This meet was a good way to cap off the cross country season,” Griffiths said. “ Now they are hungry to get back and attack the track season.”
The 2015 NCAA South Regional Championships were held on Friday, November 13, at the Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and featured competitors from 47 different schools.
