@CanesRowing Ready for Head of the Charles

BOSTON — The University of Miami rowing team will have three boats compete at the prestigious 2015 Head of the Charles regatta this weekend.

The Head of the Charles Regatta is widely acclaimed as the world’s largest two-day rowing event, drawing over 9,000 athletes around the world to compete in 55 different race events.  This event will present a new challenge, as the team attempts to compete away from home for the first time this season.

“The Head of the Charles is a special event to be able to compete in; there is nothing else like it in the rowing world,” Miami head coach Dave Sanderson said. “Our team has been working hard for the opportunity to race in Boston this weekend. The athletes are excited and can’t wait to race down the course for The U.”

The Canes will have three entries in the prestigious Head of the Charles regatta in Boston. Miami has two entries in the Club 4+ event at 1:35 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 and one in the Championship 4+ event scheduled for 2:16 p.m. on Oct. 18.

Boats racing in the Head of the Charles will compete against one another and the clock, which will start sequentially, approximately 15 seconds apart.

More information on the Head of the Charles is available at the race’s official website.

Miami will close out its fall season at the Head of the Hooch regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn. A year ago, the Canes had four boats compete at the Head of the Hooch. They will look to improve on their previous success in this year’s Head of the Hooch, scheduled for November 7-8.
