Cross Country Travels to USF Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Miami cross country team heads to the USF Invitational this weekend for their final race before the ACC Cross Country Championships.

Miami has several talented men’s and women’s runners slated to compete at the USF Invitational at The Claw golf course near the USF campus. The women’s 6K race will begin at 5 p.m. with the men’s 8K at 5:40 p.m.

“I look forward to seeing how the team is able to execute deeper into the race this week,” Miami distance coach Damon Griffiths said. “ I am looking for the front runners to challenge with the race leaders the entire race. Competing like that will help them prepare for a conference championship setting.”

Miami’s women will be led by junior Gabrielle Hesslau. The talented veteran has been the top women’s runner in each of the Hurricanes’ races this season, most recently placing fifth at the FSU Invitational. Freshman Ann Den Otter and sophomore Mulloy Manning are other Canes to watch on the women’s side, while Carla Rodriguez, Andrea Harrah, Megan Brown, Kelly Williamson and Sophia Corde round out the Hurricanes who will compete in the women’s 6K.

On the men’s side, Miami will continue to look to sophomore Sean Grossman and junior Jon Keller to lead the group of Hurricanes. Grossman finished ninth at the FSU Invitational with a season-best time of 26:22.80m while Keller earned a 12th place finish at the same race. Senior Kevin Marsh also ran a season-best time at the FSU Invitational and will look to replicate his success this weekend, while Sean Haggert, Adam George, Luke Dublirer, Alex Margetts, David Maldonado and Nick Kaleel round out the Miami men slated to run the 8k race.

Following this weekend’s action, the Hurricanes will return to Coral Gables to prepare for the 2015 ACC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 30 in Tallahassee.
