@CanesRowing Set for Head of the Indian Creek
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — The University of Miami rowing team will compete in the 23rd Annual Head of the Indian Creek.
The Hurricanes have six boats entered in Sunday’s Head of the Indian Creek, four 4+ boats and a pair of 8+ boats. The Head of the Indian Creek is a 4,450 meter (2.7 miles) head race. All boats are started sequentially and will race against the clock.
“We are excited to be on the water in a competition setting and it’s always exciting to race on our home course,” Sanderson said. “Sunday’s regatta is an opportunity for our team to get some competitive racing action as we open our fall season.”
The Head of the Indian Creek is one of three events the Hurricanes are slated to compete in during the 2015 fall season. Sanderson believes the competitive schedule will help Miami open the 2015-16 season strong.
“I am looking forward to our fall racing schedule,” Sanderson said. “Our main goals for the fall season revolve around developing technical skill and physiology for the spring season. But, of course, it is fun to race at these fall events and the team looks forward to them.”
In addition to Sunday’s action, the Canes will have two entries in the prestigious Head of the Charles regatta in Boston. Miami has two entries in the Club four event scheduled for October 17-18.
Miami will close out its fall season at the Head of the Hooch regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn. A year ago, the Canes had four boats compete at the Head of the Hooch. They will look to improve on their previous success in this year’s Head of the Hooch, scheduled for November 7-8.
“I am pleased that we will again get to race at the Head of the Charles in Boston,” Sanderson said. The Head of the Charles is always a great race and later on in November nearly the full squad, novices included, will get to race at the Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga. I am excited to see what kind of speed we can build between now and then.”
