@CanesFutbol Set to Face No. 14/4 Notre Dame
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami soccer team will continue its four match homestand Friday night against the No. 14/4 Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
The match is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at Cobb Stadium as part of a doubleheader on the Miami campus, with the volleyball team playing Georgia Tech at 6:00 p.m.
The Hurricanes last hosted Notre Dame in 2013 in the first ACC meeting between the two sides, and Miami notched its signature victory of that season, taking down the third-ranked Fighting Irish 2-0.
Notre Dame is the second-straight team in the top 15 the Hurricanes will face and third top-15 opponent of the year. The first goal of the match in each of the prior two contests, against No. 14/10 Florida and No. 7/5 Clemson, was scored by Miami (3-7-0, 0-3-0 ACC) junior forward Gracie Lachowecki, whose brother, Max, plays soccer at Notre Dame.
Lachowecki is tied with senior forward Amy Schmidt for team lead in goals with four. Schmidt, who has a team-high 12 points, is also in a three-way tie with senior midfielder/defender Natalie Moik and freshman Ainsly Wolfinbarger for the Miami lead in assists with four.
The Fighting Irish enter the match at 8-2-1 on the season, including 1-2-0 in ACC play. They went 14-6-2 (7-2-1 ACC) last year and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championship.
The tilt between Miami and Notre Dame will be carried live on ESPN3 HERE and live stats will be available HERE. The first 100 fans in attendance at the match against the Fighting Irish will receive a drawstring bag.
