@CanesFutbol Alum Yanez Named to NWSL Best XI
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A week and a half after scoring a match-winning goal to send Seattle Reign FC to the NWSL final, former University of Miami soccer standout Beverly (Goebel) Yanez has received a major league accolade.
The 2009 Miami alumna was tabbed Thursday as a member of the NWSL Best XI, which includes the top player at each position league-wide. She is joined on the team by players such as Becky Sauerbrunn, Julie Johnston and Christen Press of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup champion U.S. National Team.
Yanez logged 17 starts in 2015 for the Reign, who went 13-3-4 and finished in first place by a full 10 points. It marked the second-consecutive season the team won the NWSL Shield for a first place finish and the side is headed to the NWSL final, behind Yanez’s 71st minute match winner, for the second year in a row.
A native of San Moreno, Calif., Yanez ranked fifth in the NWSL with nine goals and finished in the top 10 with 25 shots on goal. She ended the regular season in the top three on the Reign in goals, shots on goal, shot attempts, and shots on goal percentage.
Yanez, who spent three seasons at Miami after transferring in from Sacramento State, was one of three forwards on the NWSL Best XI. The others were Press, who plays for the Chicago Red Stars, and the Washington Spirit’s Crystal Dunn.
Seattle Reign FC will face FC Kansas City Thursday, Oct. 1 at 9:30 p.m. at Providence Park in Portland, Ore. in the NWSL final and the match will be televised live on FOX Sports 1.
