WoMen's Tennis Set to Open the Fall Season
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team will open the 2015 fall season this weekend, with six players at home at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center and two on the road in Malibu, Calif.
The Hurricanes will be welcoming five schools to Coral Gables for the Miami Fall Invite, which begins at 8:00 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, sophomore Sinead Lohan and senior Stephanie Wagner will travel to the Golden State for the inaugural Oracle/ITA Masters.
Auburn, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Pitt, and reigning NCAA national champion Vanderbilt will all be coming to UM for the Miami Fall Invite. The tournament will feature a total of 32 players and will have two singles draws and two doubles draws.
In the Orange Singles draw, junior Clementina Riobueno is the third seed and sophomore Wendy Zhang is seeded fourth. They are ranked No. 63 and No. 73 in the nation, respectively. Sophomore Yolimar Ogando, tied for No. 94 nationally, is also in the Orange Singles Draw.
Sophomore Silvia Fuentes is the second seed in the Green Singles Draw and is joined there by newcomers Ana Madcur and Clara Tanielian, playing in their first tournament as Hurricanes.
Additionally, Miami’s Madcur/Riobueno and Tanielian/Zhang pairs will be in the Orange Doubles Draw, while the Fuentes/Ogando duo is seeded second in the Green Doubles Draw.
Meanwhile, Lohan and Wagner will be in competing in both singles and doubles play at the Oracle/ITA Masters, the first national collegiate championship of the 2015-16 season. The event, held at the Malibu Racquet Club, includes 16 of the nation’s elite singles players and eight of the top doubles pairs.
Wagner enters the tournament as the sixth-ranked player in the country, while Lohan checks in at No. 13 on the ITA’s list. In singles, Wagner is seeded second and will face USC’s Giuliana Olmos of USC, ranked No. 10, while Lohan is set to take on No. 23 Jasmine Lee of Mississippi State. Both matches are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET
In doubles, the pair is matched up with third-ranked and top-seeded Maegan Manasse and Denise Starr of Cal. They will square off at 7:00 p.m. ET.
