@CanesFutbol Starts ACC Play at Wake Forest
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – When the University of Miami and Wake Forest take the field Friday night in Winston-Salem, N.C., it will mark the first ACC women’s soccer match of the year for any team.
The Hurricanes and Demon Deacons are set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. at Spry Stadium to open up conference play across the ACC.
Miami downed Wake Forest 2-1 on senior day at Cobb Stadium last year in the final match of 2015. Midfielder/defender Gianna Dal Pozzo, now a junior co-captain, scored the first goal of her career on a free kick in the 73rd minute and it proved to be the decisive tally.
In the last three matches of non-conference action this season, Miami (3-4-0) outscored its opponents 8-1 and is riding a three-match winning streak into the contest at Wake Forest. The Hurricanes won 2-0 at Jacksonville Sept. 6, 1-0 at FGCU Sept. 11 and then 5-1 over North Florida Sept. 13.
Senior forward Amy Schmidt has recorded at least one point in each of three victories, with three goals and two assists during the stretch. Freshman midfielder Ainsly Wolfinbarger has logged an assist in each match, as well as the previous one, giving her four-straight contests with a point.
Wake Forest enters the match with a 3-2-2 record thus far in 2015 and is coming off a 5-9-3 (3-5-2 ACC) season in 2014.
