ACC Announces 2016 Men's Hoops Schedule
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s basketball team will open conference play against Syracuse on Jan. 2 in Coral Gables, Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford announced Wednesday.
“In my opinion, the ACC is the best basketball conference in the country, with six teams led by coaches with more than 400 victories, and six of the Top 25 winningest programs in history,” Miami head coach Jim Larrañaga said. “Every game will be a test for our players, so we will have to play at our best both at home and on the road every single night. Our demanding non-conference schedule, highlighted by our home game against the University of Florida, should prepare us for the rigors of league play.”
The Canes will play 10 games that will be broadcast on national TV – nine on the ESPN family of networks and one on CBS – with the remaining games on either the ACC Network or Regional Sports Networks (RSN).
Eight of Miami’s 18 games will be played against teams that participated in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, including four at home against Duke, Louisville, Notre Dame and Virginia.
Miami opens the 2016 ACC schedule with a pair of home games before hitting the road for three straight away from Coral Gables.
After playing the Orange on Jan. 2, the Canes will host in-state rival Florida State Jan. 9 in a game that will be broadcast on ESPN2 from the BankUnited Center.
“This year we have to defend our home court, and to do that we need our fans to help us create an electric atmosphere in the BankUnited Center for every game,” Larrañaga added. “Together we will create a true home court advantage at the BUC.”
The first of two matchups with Virginia opens a three-game road swing, as the Canes travel to Charlottesville Jan. 12 to face the defending ACC regular season champion Cavaliers on ESPNU. Miami then battles Clemson in South Carolina Jan. 16 followed by a matchup at Boston College Jan. 20.
UM will look forward to a pair of home games in late January as Wake Forest comes to Coral Gables Jan. 23. Two days later, Miami will battle 2015 NCAA Champion Duke in an ESPN Big Monday game on Jan. 25.
The next seven games will be a back-and-forth mix of road and home contests, beginning with a Jan. 30 matchup at NC State, followed by a home game against 2015 ACC Champion Notre Dame Feb. 3, on ESPN2. The Canes’ then play three straight games that will be broadcast by ESPNU, starting at Georgia Tech in Atlanta (Feb. 7), against Pittsburgh (Feb. 9), then concluding at Florida State (Feb. 14) for the second of two outings against the Seminoles.
Three of Miami’s next four contests will be played in the BankUnited Center, before ending the season with a pair of road games.
The Canes host Virginia Tech (Feb. 17) in the first of two battles with the Hokies, then travel to North Carolina to face the Tar Heels in a Feb. 20 game on CBS. UM wraps up the home portion of the schedule with Virginia (Feb. 22) on ESPN and against Louisville (Feb. 27), then concludes the regular season at Notre Dame (March 2 on ESPN2) and at Virginia Tech (March 5).
The 63rd annual ACC Tournament is set for Tuesday, March 8 through Saturday, March 12 at Washington, D.C.’s Verizon Center. All 14 games will be shown nationally on an ESPN network and the ACC Network, including the prime time (9 p.m.) championship game on Saturday evening.
A total of 229 national television appearances by league teams highlights the 2015-16 ACC basketball schedule. All 135 regular-season ACC games and each of the 14 ACC Tournament games are slated to be available on an ESPN network, the ACC Network, CBS Sports, the CBS Sports Network or the league’s regional cable networks.
Each of the ACC-controlled regular-season games, with the exception of the CBS telecasts, will be available through WatchESPN, accessible online at WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app, and streamed on televisions through Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 or Xbox One to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider.
Remaining broadcast designations for all games involving ACC teams will be announced at a future date.
