@CanesFutbol to Host UCF at Cobb Stadium
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami soccer team is set to take on the UCF Knights Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Cobb Stadium.
For the Hurricanes, it will be their second of six consecutive matches against Sunshine State teams, half of which are at home. Miami (0-2-0) and UCF (1-1-0) have met three times in the last three seasons, with all three matches decided by either one goal or in penalty kicks.
The contest against the Knights will be Miami’s third-straight against a team either ranked or receiving votes in the NSCAA Coaches Poll. UCF was ranked in the top 20 in the preseason and is now the sixth team in the receiving votes category. This is the first meeting between the two sides in Coral Gables since the 2006 season opener, a 2-0 victory for the Hurricanes.
Miami is coming off a superb performance in a tough 4-2 defeat against No. 14 Florida Thursday night in its home opener. Junior forward Gracie Lachowecki recorded a goal and an assist, while freshman forward Jamie Brunworth scored in her first action as a collegian.
Brunworth is one of six Hurricanes to make their college debuts so far this season, as is freshman defender Maisie Baker, who has started both games for third-year head coach Mary-Frances Monroe.
UCF went 18-5-0 during it 2014 campaign and posted an 8-1-0 mark in American Athletic Conference play. The Knights advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championship.
The action between the Hurricanes and Knights will be shown live on ESPN3 HERE and live stats will be available HERE.
Miami’s honorary captain for the match will be Edgardo Gonzalez Chacon, a member of the Wounded Warrior Project and the U.S. National Paralympic Soccer Team. All Wounded Warriors in attendance will be honored at halftime as well.
