@CanesFutbol Set to Face Longhorns
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After having its regular season opener against the College of Charleston cancelled Friday night due to weather, the University of Miami soccer team will now begin its 2015 campaign Sunday against Texas.
The Hurricanes and Longhorns will face off at 12:00 p.m. at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The match is a part of the inaugural Charleston Nike Classic.
Texas too had its match Friday in Charleston cancelled due to the weather in the area, so the contest will be the first of the season for both teams. The Hurricanes also dealt with weather issues during both of its exhibition matches, playing just under 55 total minutes in road affairs at FIU and Stetson.
Miami is under the direction of third-year head coach Mary-Frances Monroe and the team returns eight starters from last season, including its top six players in points. Eight freshmen have also joined the Hurricanes for the 2015 season.
The Longhorns posted an 11-8-4 mark in 2014, including a 4-4 record in Big 12 play, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship. Texas is currently receiving votes in the NSCAA Coaches Poll.
