Head coach Al Golden on this weekend’s events
On the importance of a 7-on-7 tournament
“A 7-on-7 Tournament is a must for any college football program, especially if your situated in South Florida. In the past, our incapacity to host an event like this on campus has had hindered our ability to touch high school coaches, programs and student-athletes in the state of Florida.”
On this weekend’s visitors
“We’re expecting over 2,000 visitors here on Sunday with the aim of making The U the center of the college football world this weekend!”
“Between the coaches clinic on Saturday and the 7-on-7 tournament on Sunday we expect more than 3,000 visitors on campus and in our local community. That’s great for The University, Our Football Program, community relations, our brand and the local chambers of commerce.”
On the expectations for Sunday’s 7-on-7 tournament
“We’re looking forward to hosting a competitive, passionate and talented group of student-athletes, their coaches and teams in what promises to be an elite 7-on-7 competition – perhaps one of the better competitions of its kind. But the impact of the South Florida Shootout goes far beyond the football field.”
On the 7-on-7 tournament field
“There will be 48 different High School’s represented from countless communities all over the state. What they experience this weekend will no doubt leave a lasting impression and travels with them as they share their experience back home. They’ll see the transformation that The University of Miami has made first hand on Sunday, which strengthens our brand.”
On this weekend’s experience
“Nothing is more powerful than what you experience. We’re looking forward to showcasing the many aesthetic changes that have occurred to campus in the last two years as well as our new Student Center, Medical Facility, Football Complex, Academic Support Center, Practice Fields, Training Table, Dining Facilities, as well as sharing close up rendition of the $400,000,000 renovation currently underway at Sun Life Stadium.”
On this weekend’s events
“The Weekend kicks off on Saturday with a the Second Annual South Florida Football Festival, SoFlo’s version of a typical coaches clinic. However, this is anything but typical. The clinic is open to all high school and youth football coaches and we have four. different Football Programs from Florida in attendance (FIU, UM and Dolphins).”
On this weekend’s speakers
“In addition, we have multiple visiting high school guest lecturers, live on-field demonstrations with current Hurricane football players and staff, chalk talk sessions, a coaches Social and the honor of having Miami Dolphins Head Coach Joe Philbin as our keynote speaker. Again, before The President Donna Shalala Student Center was completed in the fall of 2013 we did not have the means to host a first-class coaches clinic like this. This is an exciting time for us.”
On what the 7-on-7 tournament and coaches clinic provides
“The South Florida Shootout (7-on-7) and the South Florida Football Festival (coaches clinic) demonstrates the Coaches and Student-athletes of Florida and South Florida that there is newfound commitment to them and that we want to provide them the best in college athletics. We are now providing a clinic and 7-on-7 opportunity for the programs, coaches and prospects of south Florida that matches or surpasses anyone in our business.”
