Thompson Named Louisville Slugger All-America

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami junior slugger David Thompson was recognized for his outstanding season with Louisville Slugger All-America first-team honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, announced Thursday by the publication.

Thompson, the nation’s leader in RBI (80) and tied for the nation lead in home runs (19), was a critical member of a Miami offense that finished the regular season ranked first in runs scored and runs per game.

Thompson led Miami in nearly every offensive category, including home runs, RBI, doubles (16), total bases (151) and slugging percentage (.783). The Miami native was one of just three players to start all 58 games in 2015, helping power the Hurricanes to a 44-14 overall record and their second straight ACC Coastal Division crown.

An All-ACC first-team selection at third base, Thompson was recently named a semifinalist for both the 2015 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award and 2015 Dick Howser Trophy, recognizing the nation’s top amateur player.

Thompson’s selection as a Louisville Slugger All-America marks the third consecutive year a Hurricane has earned the distinction; lefthander Chris Diaz earned first-team honors from the publication in 2014, while former ace Bryan Radziewski earned second-team recognition in 2013.

Thompson and the top-seeded Hurricanes open play at the Coral Gables Regional Friday night against FIU. First pitch for the contest, slated for broadcast on ESPN3, 560 WQAM and WVUM 90.5 FM, is set for 7 p.m.
