WBB to Host Illinois in B1G/ACC Challenge
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s basketball team will host Illinois at the BankUnited Center as a part of the 2015 Big Ten/ACC Challenge, as announced Wednesday morning.
Head coach Katie Meier and the Hurricanes will take on the Fighting Illini Dec. 2 in Coral Gables. This will be the second consecutive year Miami stays at home for the event.
In 2014, the Hurricanes defeated Wisconsin, 66-54, behind a combined 40 points from guards Adrienne Motley and Suriya McGuire.
Miami is 3-3 all-time in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, including a 3-1 mark over the last four years and a 2-2 record at home.
The Hurricanes have played Illinois twice before, with the Fighting Illini winning both meetings. The teams have not met since Dec. 30, 1987, when Illinois picked up a narrow 85-83 road victory.
Miami went 20-13 (8-8 ACC) in 2014-15 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Illinois posted a 15-16 (6-12 B1G) record last season.
The ACC is undefeated through the first eight seasons of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, recording a 6-0-2 record. Overall, the ACC is 55-39 against the Big Ten, good for a .585 winning percentage. In 2014, the conferences split the 14 matchups.
