Lea Johnson Named Academic All-District

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami track and field’s Lea Johnson was named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District® Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Johnson was named First Team All-District 4, adding another honors to her extensive list of achievements. One of the most decorated throwers in Miami history, Johnson won the ACC title in the weight throw in 2014 and 2015 and claiming the ACC title in the hammer in 2014. Johnson was a first team Indoor All-American in the weight throw in 2015 and earned second team All-America in the weight throw and hammer in 2014. She is a three-time All-ACC performer and ranks second in UM history in both the weight throw and the hammer throw. She is one of 19 Hurricanes headed to compete at the 2015 NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla., next week.

In the classroom, Johnson has been a stellar student-athlete, earning All-ACC Academic honors four times. A microbiology and immunology major, Johnson graduated from the University of Miami in early May and will attend the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in the fall.

The Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the fourth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America ® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in June after the 2015 CoSIDA Convention. Teams will be announced: June 22: College teams; June 23: Division III; June 24: Division II; June 25: Division I).
