Fisher Promoted to Assistant Coach with Miami

University of Miami men’s basketball coach Jim Larrañaga has promoted Adam Fisher to be an assistant coach for the Hurricanes, the school announced Wednesday.

“Adam Fisher has done a fantastic job in his role as director of basketball operations in our program the last two years,” said Larrañaga. “He is ready to take a major step forward with his coaching career. He has built tremendous relationships with all the people here with the University and his friendly personality will help him build a network of contacts in the recruiting arena. Adam is a tireless worker and has a lot of basketball experience having been a part of successful programs at Villanova and Penn State.”

Fisher spent two seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Miami Hurricanes, and was the Camp Director for the Jim Larrañaga Basketball Camps. In his second season with the Canes, Miami played in the championship game of the NIT in Madison Square Garden.

“I am both honored and thrilled to be the newest assistant men’s basketball coach at the University of Miami,” said Fisher. “I could not ask for a better mentor than Coach Larrañaga, and I thank him for this tremendous opportunity. I have loved being a part of the UM family and the Coral Gables community for the past two years, so I am very excited to continue working with our team and our staff. I look forward to continuing to build on the success that Coach L has created here at Miami.”

Fisher came to Miami in June of 2013 after spending two seasons at his alma mater, Penn State University. He served as video coordinator in his first season with the Nittany Lions, then was promoted to Director of Player Development in 2012.

Prior to PSU, Fisher served the previous two seasons as director of basketball operations at Boston University, helping the Terriers to back-to-back 21-win seasons and post-season appearances both years. The Terriers went 21-14 in 2010-11, winning the America East Conference Championship and advancing to their first NCAA Tournament since 2002. The Terriers also went 21-14 in 2009-10 and earned a CBI tournament berth, reaching the semifinals.

Fisher worked under two-time BIG EAST Coach of the Year Jay Wright at Villanova from 2007-09 as a graduate assistant, serving as an assistant recruiting coordinator while earning his master’s degree in education leadership. In those two seasons, the Wildcats reached the Sweet 16 in 2008, then won the East Regional in 2009 to advance to the Final Four with a school-record 30 wins. Fisher also assisted Villanova’s director of basketball operations and worked as the assistant camp coordinator in the summers of 2007 and 2008.

The Jamison, Pa., native graduated from Penn State with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in 2006. While at Penn State, he worked three seasons as head student manager for the Nittany Lions, then one season as a graduate manager. In those roles, he assisted with player workouts, handled administrative duties and helped with team travel.

Fisher replaces Eric Konkol, who was named the head basketball coach at Louisiana Tech on May 18.
