Steelers Draft Chickillo in the Sixth Round
CHICAGO – Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Anthony Chickillo was selected with the 212th overall draft pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers Saturday afternoon in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Chickillo is the first Miami defensive lineman to be selected in this year’s NFL Draft. The Tampa, Fla. native is the first Hurricane defensive lineman to be selected in the NFL Draft since the Miami Dolphins took Olivier Vernon in the third round in 2012.
He also is the seventh Hurricane to be selected in this year’s NFL Draft.
Earlier this afternoon, the Oakland Raiders selected Miami offensive lineman Jon Feliciano in the fourth round with the 128th overall pick.
On Friday, the San Diego Chargers drafted linebacker Denzel Perryman with the 48th overall pick in the second round. Tight end Clive Walford followed in the third round after the Oakland Raiders selected him with the 68th overall pick. Running back Duke Johnson was selected nine picks later by the Cleveland Browns with the 77th overall pick.
On day one of the NFL Draft, Miami offensive lineman Ereck Flowers was selected with the ninth overall pick by the New York Giants. Miami wide receiver Phillip Dorsett followed later in the first round as he was selected with the 29th overall pick.
Chickillo started in every game this past season, finishing the year with 41 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. Following his senior campaign, Chickillo was named to the All-ACC Third Team by the league’s coaches and Phil Steele.
He also received All-ACC honors from the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA). In addition, Chickillo was named Defensive Most Valuable Player of the East-West Shrine Game.
