@CanesMensTennis Concludes Season at Home
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team will take on No. 17 Virginia Tech on Friday, April 14 at 2 p.m. and will face No. 4 Virginia on Sunday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla., in the last regular season matches of 2015.
The Hurricanes will recognize seniors Wilfredo Gonzalez and Henrique Tsukamoto between the doubles and singles events on Sunday.
Gonzalez, from Guatemala City, Guatemala, posted 41 singles victories in his career, earning eight this season. In doubles, Gonzalez has posted 32 victories in his four years at Miami. Off the court Gonzalez has also been an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was named president of SAAC for the 2014-15 academic year. Gonzalez graduates in May with a degree in economics and sports administration.
Tsukamoto, who hails from Sao Paulo, Brazil, posted 28 career wins in his four-year career. In his senior campaign, Tsukamoto reached the Round of 16 at the USTA Clay Court Invitational and has secured 12 victories. In doubles, Tsukamoto has posted 24 victories in his four years at the U. Tsukamoto graduates in May with a degree in international finance and marketing.
This will be the 18th meeting between Miami and Virginia Tech, with the Canes posting an 8-9 all-time record against the Hokies. The previous meeting came last season, when the Canes travelled to Blacksburg and fell to Virginia Tech, 6-1. The Hokies come to Coral Gables with a 17-3 record.
The Cavaliers are also a familiar foe. This will be the 22nd meeting between the Canes and the Cavaliers, where the Canes have a 4-17 all-time record against Virginia. In the last meeting, the Canes fell to Virginia in Charlottesville, 7-0.
