@HurricaneTennis Remains No. 16 in Nation
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team held steady at No. 16 in the nation in the updated ITA rankings, released Tuesday morning.
The Hurricanes have been in the top 20 in every set of rankings throughout the season and have been below No. 16 just once.
Miami (11-4, 7-1 ACC) split a pair of matches in Virginia over the weekend, winning at Virginia (then ranked eighth, now ninth) and falling at Virginia Tech (then No. 47, now No. 34).
In the win at Virginia, the Hurricanes used a comeback by junior Lina Lileikite and freshman Wendy Zhang to win the doubles point and carried that momentum into singles play for a 5-2 victory. Miami then fell 4-3 in Blacksburg, Va. two days later.
The Hurricanes and Cavaliers are two of five ACC schools ranked in the top 25, tied for the second most of any conference in the nation. Three of the teams to defeat Miami this season are ranked in the top seven all of the Hurricanes’ losses have come away from Coral Gables, Fla.
Miami returns to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center Thursday, April 2 at 5:00 p.m. when it hosts No. 24 Duke. Two days later, on Saturday, the Hurricanes welcome second-ranked North Carolina to town for an 11:00 a.m. match. Live stats for both matches will be available HERE.
The Hurricanes and Blue Devils are tied for second place in the ACC, while the Tar Heels are in first in the conference.
