Wagner Rises to Sixth in Singles and Doubles

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Stephanie Wagner of the University of Miami women’s tennis team moved up to the No. 6 spot in both the national singles and doubles rankings released by the ITA Tuesday afternoon.

The junior rose one spot in the singles rankings, while she and senior Lina Lileikite jumped two positions on the doubles list. Wagner is one of just four players in the country top 10 in both sets of rankings and one of three in the top six in both.

A native of Amberg, Germany, Wagner is 8-1 in singles dual matches this spring, including 6-0 in ACC play and 6-1 at the top position. She has posted seven singles victories against nationally ranked opponents in 2015.

Four other Hurricanes are ranked in singles in addition to Wagner, with Sinead Lohan holding the No. 36 spot. The freshman has been ranked in the top 45 the entire spring season.

Junior Clementina Riobueno remained at No. 63, while freshman Wendy Zhang comes is ranked No. 96 and Lileikite comes in at No. 125. Miami (10-3, 6-0 ACC) has had five ranked singles players in every 2015 release.

As for doubles, Wagner and Lileikite are not the only pair on the ITA’s list. Riobueno and senior Monique Albuquerque are ranked No. 29 in the nation.

In the national team rankings, Miami checks in at No. 16. The Hurricanes have been in the top 20 every week this year and have posted a 7-3 record against nationally ranked opponents. Miami’s three losses have all come to teams currently ranked in the top seven, with two at one point holding the top spot.

The Hurricanes are one of five ACC schools in the top 25, tied for the second most of any conference.

Paige Yaroshuk-Tews‘ team is set to resume play Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va. against eighth-ranked Virginia. The Hurricanes and Cavaliers are two of four schools in the ACC without multiple losses in conference play. Miami is a half game out of first place at 6-0, while Virginia enters at 5-1 in ACC matches.
